It is our second year participating in this fun run as a family, we participated last year thinking it may be a one-off event. However, we had such a great time that we decided we would participate again this year. The event I’m talking about is the Color Run. It is held each year in different cities around the globe and you can choose to enter as an individual, a team or a family. You can also choose to fund raise for a charity, which I did last year. Last year I raised the third highest amount as an individual for the Cancer Council Australia. This year though, we decided to participate just for the fun of it! Sometimes in life – fun is the only reason you need!
This year’s theme was Tropicolor, the description on the website read “The Color Run Tropicolor World Tour 2016 is bringing a 5k paradise straight to your city with a sweet Tropicolor Zone on course, all-new Rainbow Beach at the Finish Festival, and a fresh island-style participant kit”. At each kilometre there is a colour station where coloured powder is thrown over you – you can choose to have as little or as much as you would like thrown over you! We definitely lived my motto of Laugh, Love, Live! My daughter came prepared this year with goggles and a mask to prevent any going into her eyes or mouth! Last year I had so much thrown over me that I couldn’t see through my sunglasses as the lenses were covered in coloured powder, but nothing a little wipe couldn’t fix! The website states that the coloured powder used “is made from corn-starch and natural food dyes. It will wash out of your clothes, however they suggest that you leave your designer gear at home! Only wear what you’re willing to get colourful !”
At last year’s event, we had so much thrown over us that we were a rainbow of colours at the end! This year was no different, we aim to be covered with as much colour as possible! At the finish festival, even more colour is thrown up into the air so you can end up absolutely covered in colour – it’s all a lot of fun!. What a great day to experience fitness with a bit of fun! People of all ages participate and those who are serious runners, can run the entire 5 kilometres but a lot of people, especially with small children tend to walk through and experience the rainbow of colours, music and fun! We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day and were very grateful for the warmth and sunshine!
Many people dress up for the event in tutus, fairy wings, rainbow socks, funny hats and various other paraphernalia! There is music played along the course and various volunteers cheering and ‘High Fiving’ everyone to encourage you on! The Color Run is held in more than fifty countries around the globe, if it might be something you would like to experience please enquire via their website – they also do a Color run night which also looks like a lot of fun! Please click here , then click on the International tab at the top right of the screen to find your country or a country you may be visiting at the time to find out location and details!
Here are some photos of our experience and hopefully it may inspire you to join a fun run or participate in some outdoor fun – it’s all up to you! What will you do?
