A better present, a better future…

The familiar is becoming unfamiliar,

The world is changing,

Not always for the better.

There is much sadness and negativity,

There is need for more empathy.

People are acting out of fear, hatred, misunderstanding,

Where do we want to be heading?

Towards love, empathy and peace,

Or where tragedies and negative actions never cease?

Through education of our next generation,

We have the opportunity to unlearn negative behaviours, thoughts and ideas.

If we can learn, then we can unlearn – to become better,

Better at obtaining peace, love and empathy.

I enjoyed this poem. Often, we see people go out of their way to create conflict. It’s amazing to me how these same individuals turn around and lament the negative reactions they receive for their antisocial behaviour. It is important to not pay lip service to peace, kindness and empathy. Each of us has the power to set an example. First, by being empathetic and second by choosing our words carefully.

Thank you very much for reading and your comments. I agree with you, the change has to start with you as an individual before we can see change initiated by others by your own example. It costs nothing to be kind, be empathetic and to wish for peace. Hope you have a wonderful day 🙂
